Forman Watkins & Krutz served as a proud sponsor of the Bessie Young Council’s recent Summer Social held at the Mississippi Civil Rights Museum. The Council’s mission is to aid the success of legal scholars by mentoring and financially supporting students with advanced life experiences who embody the pioneering spirit of Bessie Young, the first female graduate of the University of Mississippi School of Law. The goal of the Bessie Young Council is to assist those nontraditional students who bring diversity, fresh perspectives, and varied life experiences to our student body through scholarships and mentorship.

Banks, McFarland, McGuffey and Stubbs Promoted to Partner

Forman Watkins & Krutz LLP is proud to announce Jake Banks, Vernon McFarland, Mitch McGuffey, and Andrew Stubbs were promoted to Partners of the Firm in our Jackson, Mississippi office. Jake is licensed in Mississippi and received his law degree from the University of Mississippi.  Jake’s practices in the Firm’s general litigation group, handling diverse legal issues including catastrophic personal injury, contractual disputes, insurance coverage, and TCPA liability. Vernon is licensed in Mississippi and Montana and received his law degree from the University of Mississippi School of Law and is a member of the Mississippi Bar and the Magnolia Bar Association. He is a Mid-South Super Lawyer Rising Star and member of the Leadership Greater Jackson Class of 2016-2017. Vernon’s primary practice areas are Toxic Tort Litigation, Commercial Litigation, and Professional Liability.  He is a member of the Firm’s Pro Bono and Recruiting Committees and serves the community through his church and other charitable organizations. Mitch is licensed in Mississippi and New York. His practice region also includes most of New England. Mitch received degrees in graphic design and business administration at Auburn University and received his law degree from the University of Virginia. He is a member of the Mississippi Bar Association and the Defense Research Institute. Mitch’s practice focuses primarily on Toxic Tort Litigation, including Environmental and Products Liability cases, NCAA Compliance proceedings, and Appellate Litigation. Benton York Returns After Serving as Law Clerk to the Honorable Rhesa H. Barksdale on the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit

Benton York returns to the firm after serving as a law clerk to the Honorable Rhesa H. Barksdale on the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.  He is a 2013 graduate of the University of Virginia School of Law, where he was selected to the Editorial Board for the Virginia Journal of Social Policy and the Law, and elected a judge on the University Judicial Committee.  He also clerked for the Honorable John S. Bryant on the Middle District of Tennessee during the summer of 2012.  Benton received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of Mississippi in 2008, graduating magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from the Sally McDonnell Barksdale Honors College.  He originally joined the firm in 2013 and worked on complex litigation in federal and state courts nationwide at the trial and appellate level for three years before starting his clerkship.
