Malissa Wilson and Spencer Ritchie were speakers at the Mississippi Employment Law 2022 seminar sponsored by the National Business Institute, which was held May 3, 2022. The basic level seminar examined current issues in Mississippi employment law for attorneys, human resources and financial professionals, and other business executives. Wilson and Ritchie spoke about issues related to hiring and firing employees and discrimination, harassment, and retaliation claims against employers. Malissa Wilson and Spencer Ritchie were speakers at the Human Resource Law from A to Z seminar, held March 27-28, 2019, in Pearl, Mississippi. The basic-to-intermediate level seminar provided a comprehensive overview of current issues in human resource law for attorneys, Human Resource and financial professionals, and other business executives.  Wilson and Ritchie spoke about discrimination and harassment; workplace behavioral issues; workplace privacy and employee monitoring; and, disciplining and firing employees. Malissa Wilson Serves as Mentor During Bessie Young Council Mentoring Conference

FormanWatkins Partner Malissa Wilson participated in the mini-mentoring session at the 2019 Bessie Young Council Mentoring Conference on Friday, March 29, 2019, at the University of Mississippi School of Law.  The session involved attorneys meeting with students to discuss their respective area of legal practice, work/life balance, what they look for in an associate, and what impresses firms when they interview potential associates.  The mission of this annual conference is to provide learning and networking opportunities for non-traditional law students and young lawyers.  Through its annual conference, the Bessie Young Council shares the experiences of its member attorneys and others in the field to help foster successful careers for those law students and young lawyers who may encounter unique obstacles along the way. Update on Perrin’s Diversity & Inclusion Conference

On November 1, 2018, Nick Giallourakis appeared on a panel at Perrin’s Diversity & Inclusion conference to discuss the “white male perspective” in the legal industry’s diversity and inclusion efforts. FormanWatkins attorneys Nicole Diesa and Vernon McFarland also attended the conference, which brought together outside legal counsel, in-house counsel, and counsel from several major insurance companies. Nick, Nicole, and Vernon are all members of the firm’s Diversity & Inclusion Committee. This was the third year in a row that FormanWatkins attorneys have spoken at the conference, and FormanWatkins continues to cement its relationship with Perrin as a “go to” speaker for diversity and inclusion topics. Malissa Wilson Serves as Panelist for Bessie Young Council Mentoring Conference

Forman Watkins Partner Malissa Wilson was one of four panelists with diverse law practices from across the state who talked to law students and attorneys about the realities of law practice at the inaugural Bessie Young Council Mentoring Conference in March of 2018. Malissa shared pointers from a defense attorney’s perspective on a variety of topics, including making the most of support staff; billing time and deciding what it’s worth; and, daily dealings with opposite counsel and clients.
