The Capital Area Bar Association (CABA) recently held their annual Evening Honoring the Judiciary at the Country Club of Jackson. The dinner not only hosts a keynote speaker but also serves as an opportunity for CABA and Jackson Young Lawyers (JYL) to present their annual awards for outstanding service, pro bono and professionalism. Forman Watkins is extremely proud to have one of its very own presented with the 2017 JYL Pro Bono Service Award, congratulations to Partner Vernon McFarland for this wonderful recognition. Vernon serves on the Firm’s Pro Bono Committee where he shows daily commitment to the growth and expansion of Pro Bono efforts in the Firm and our local communities.

The Firm is thankful for Malissa Wilson’s commitment to the Firm’s Pro Bono mission. Malissa is pictured below at the Magnolia Bar Association’s April 2018 Expungement Clinic in Vicksburg, Mississippi.

Each year, the Mississippi Business Journal recognizes a select group of 40 attorneys who exhibit both the legal success and the qualities of character that exemplify this honor. A reception and awards celebration was held in December to recognize the 2017 honorees.

Forman Watkins & Krutz LLP congratulates Jackson Partners, Nick Giallourakis and Alison O’Neal McMinn, for being honored by Portico Magazine as 2018 Portico 10 Attorneys. The PORTICO 10 is a group of up-and-coming attorneys in the Jackson area nominated by local firms, past honorees and members of the community before being chosen by a panel of local judges. Each member of the PORTICO 10 has a long list of accomplishments and rewards to compliment their extensive background in leadership.

The firm recently participated in the Capital Area Bar Association’s annual Toys for Tots campaign. Our team donated a box of unwrapped toys for children in our community. Thank you to Elizabeth Penn and Sam Kapoor for representing the firm at CABA’s Christmas Social to present our donations!

Forman Watkins attorneys and summer clerks recently conducted our second pro se law clinic at the Eudora Welty Library through our partnership with the Mississippi Volunteer Lawyers Project (MVLP). The July clinic allowed our team of 10 attorneys and 5 law clerks to assist with 26 individual matters, providing legal advice to those who qualified for legal assistance through MVLP. In 2017 alone, Forman Watkins attorneys have assisted with 48 individual matters through our partnership with MVLP.

Forman Watkins Partner, Alison O’Neal McMinn, was recently selected as one of Mississippi Business Journal’s Top 50 Under 40 for 2017. This recognition is one of Mississippi’s most prestigious awards and 2017 brings about its 24th consecutive year. Top 50 Under 40 recognizes the state’s 50 up-and-coming business leaders under the age of 40. The key to the program’s success is that individuals are nominated by friends or business associates who best know their professional and civic involvement.
